This week’s lesson identified five approaches to theory development: theory-practice-theory, practice-theory, research theory, theory-research-theory, and integrated approach.
The theory-practice theory is based on a phenomenon of interest that has not been fully defined and can be modified to address the concepts not discussed in the original theory.
Practice theory attempts to explain a phenomenon without theory and can be developed through practice situations. Research theory focuses on research findings. Theory-research- theory relates to theory modification. An integrated approach is a process used to address concerns by gathering information, identifying exemplars, finding solutions, and recognizing supportive information. I think knowing the different types of approaches is essential to begin theory development. I have realized that theory development, testing, and evaluation are comprehensive and exhausting.
